A peaceful goodbye, in the comfort of home
Few moments ask more of us than choosing to let a beloved companion go. It is one of the kindest, and hardest, gifts we give our pets. We are here to make that moment as gentle and loving as it can possibly be.
In-home pet euthanasia means your dog or cat never has to leave the place they feel safest. There is no stressful trip to the clinic, no unfamiliar smells and no waiting room — just familiar surroundings, your presence, and a calm, compassionate vet who will guide you gently through every step.
We give you all the time you need. This is your pet's farewell, and yours, and we will follow your lead on how you wish to spend it.
“How do I know when it's time?”
It is the question every loving owner wrestles with. There is rarely one clear sign, but thinking about your pet's quality of life can help bring some clarity and peace.
Comfort & pain
Are they comfortable, or is pain becoming hard to manage even with medication?
Appetite & hydration
Are they still interested in eating and drinking, or refusing food they once loved?
Mobility & dignity
Can they move, toilet and rest without distress, or are they struggling and losing dignity?
Joy & connection
Do they still seek out the things and people they love, or have those moments faded?
Good days vs hard days
Over a week, do the good days still outnumber the difficult ones?
Your instinct
No one knows your pet like you do. Trust what your heart is quietly telling you.
If you are unsure, you don't have to decide alone. We offer gentle, in-home quality-of-life assessments and will talk it through with you honestly and without pressure. You may also find our guide, A Gentle Goodbye: Understanding Home Pet Euthanasia, a comforting read.
What to expect on the day
- 1
A gentle arrival
Your vet arrives calmly and quietly, with no rush. We take time to talk with you, answer any questions and let your pet settle in your presence — wherever they are most comfortable, whether that is their bed, the couch or your lap.
- 2
Gentle sedation
We give a sedative so your pet drifts into a deep, peaceful and pain-free sleep. They feel calm and relaxed, often dozing in your arms, before anything else happens.
- 3
A peaceful passing
Once your pet is fully relaxed and free of any distress, the final injection is given gently. It is quick and painless, and they simply slip away peacefully in the comfort of home.
- 4
Time to say goodbye
There is no rush afterwards. You are welcome to spend as much quiet time with your pet as you need before we respectfully attend to aftercare.
We allow 45–60 minutes for the visit so that nothing ever feels hurried.

Respectful cremation & aftercare
Caring for your pet doesn't end with their passing. We arrange dignified aftercare through a trusted external provider such as Pet Angel, and we will gently talk you through the options so you can choose what feels right for your family.
- Communal cremation — a respectful farewell where ashes are not returned.
- Private cremation — your pet's ashes returned to you in an urn or keepsake of your choosing.
- Home burial — where local regulations permit, we can guide you through this option.
Cremation and keepsakes are priced separately according to the option you choose, and we will always be clear about costs beforehand.
How much does home pet euthanasia cost?
Our in-home euthanasia appointment runs for 45–60 minutes and includes gentle sedation, so your pet stays calm and comfortable throughout. The fee depends on your pet's size:
| Pet & weight | Appointment fee |
|---|---|
| Cats & dogs under 10kg | $399 |
| Dogs 10–30kg | $449 |
| Dogs over 30kg | $449 |
Additional charges may apply for after-hours and weekend appointments.
If you choose cremation, this is an additional cost paid directly to a pet cremation company such as Pet Angel. We'll gently talk you through the options and always confirm any costs with you beforehand — no surprises at a difficult time.
Questions families often ask
How do I know when it is the right time?
There is rarely a single obvious moment. Many families use a quality-of-life checklist, looking at appetite, mobility, comfort, continence and whether the good days still outnumber the hard ones. If you are unsure, we are always happy to talk it through with you gently and without pressure — sometimes a quality-of-life assessment at home is the kindest first step.
What happens during an in-home euthanasia appointment?
We allow 45–60 minutes so nothing is rushed. After a gentle introduction, your vet gives a sedative so your pet drifts into a calm, comfortable sleep in their own bed or your arms. Once they are fully relaxed and pain-free, the final injection is given peacefully. You are welcome to be as close as you wish throughout, or to step away — there is no right or wrong.
Is it less stressful for my pet to be put to sleep at home?
For most pets, yes. There is no car ride, no waiting room and no unfamiliar clinic smells — just the comfort of home and the people they love. This is especially kind for anxious pets, senior pets and those with mobility problems.
Can the whole family and other pets be present?
Absolutely. You are welcome to have family members, children and other pets nearby in whatever way feels right for you. Some families find it helps other animals in the home to understand and to say their own goodbye.
What are the options for cremation and aftercare?
We arrange respectful aftercare through a trusted external provider such as Pet Angel. You can choose a communal cremation, or a private cremation with your pet’s ashes returned to you in an urn or keepsake of your choosing. If you prefer a home burial where permitted, we can talk you through that too.

Do you offer this as an emergency or after-hours service?
We are a planned, by-appointment service rather than an emergency provider. If your pet is in acute distress or pain right now, please contact your nearest 24/7 emergency animal hospital. For a planned, peaceful goodbye, please get in touch and we will find the earliest gentle appointment we can.
